So, camp is over and classes are back on. The band and I are starting the (school) year off well, though, with two big gigs lined up for Matchgrip, and all of the major recording completed on the EP. The band will be playing at Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte at the end of this month with You Hang Up (w/ Frankie Muniz of Malcolm in the Middle on drums) and The Decour, another Charlotte-based band. In September we're also set to play a great show at The Evening Muse with our friends The Jeremy Vess Band and Brandon McSwain Band. I'm really looking forward to that one! I've gotten to get my hands dirty designing posters . . . and seeing just how expensive this whole music/promotion thing can be. We've been shopping around to find cost-effective disc duplication; the EP project is just about finished with Chris and Studio Grey; both Justin and I have plastered UNCC, University City, Tremont Music Hall, Concord Mills Mall, and the entire City of Concord with posters (lol); and, I have submitted all the songs from the EP for copyright registration. Did I mention this is expensive? lol
July 2010 -
I've been busy working at a (fantastic) summer camp for the past few weeks while I take a break from teaching lessons and the band takes a break from practices/gigs. As I mentioned before, Matchgrip is working with Christopher Kincaid to produce our debut EP, still untitled (what do you think of "The Search is Over" - Justin's idea . . . hehe)
So far, drums (by Victor Greene), bass (Jared Stowers) and guitars (Justin Southard) have all finished recording, and the current mix sounds phenomenal! I'm so blessed to have the opportunity to with these amazingly talented men. God's really up to something here! I went in to start my vocals this past Monday and we got a couple songs knocked out. Unfortunately, my voice crapped out after we re-worked Took Too Long and had to do several additional takes. It was worth it in the end, that's all I'll say. lol I'm going back in on Tuesday (7/20) to finish up. Vocals on those last few songs, and Kenny Hall's keys and synth tracks, are all that's left before Chris get's to let loose and work his magic. lol (Seriously, watching him at work is pretty awe-inspiring.)
Oh, I'm trying to figure out how to post a video from out April show at The Inn to the Fragments section right now. In other news, Justin's registered a domain name for us and we now have a MySpace page! Check us out!
